Diversify your revenue streams

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket

Earning with Adsense is a great thing, but now and then we hear horror stories about accounts being banned, search rankings failing, and CPC (Cost per click) of your ads dropping. Well, search engine rankings can be tricky, but the other issues we can rectify fairly easy.

How you ask? Diversify. What do you mean by that you ask? Instead of just using adsense, combine it with another advertising company as well. Adbrite for example, or infolinks. These ad campaigns are allowed to run side by side without risking your account

How do you implement this system? Well for infolinks and Adbrites inline text ads it is very easy, simply add the code to each page you wish the inline text to be affected. I usually add the code to some global part of my site, like a footer so every page of my website will show the inline ads. If there is certain parts of your content you don’t want to show links in, each of these networks has a piece of code so it won’t be crawled.

For other advertising Banners it is up to you, you could implement a simple php script to show either adsense or another company’s banner 50% of the time, so they rotate. Or you could simply find which area of your advertising performs best and place the higher paying ads there whilst filling the lesser clicks areas with another network.

What’s the point? Well as I said, in the very rare cases google accounts are banned for no reason (although google is an excellent company, mistakes sometimes do happen, especially with competitors clicking your ads etc. in order to get you banned – it has been reported). Also it can increase your revenue! When I implemented CPM banners, inline ads and adsense on my websites, I was very happy to see that my revenue doubled overnight. I can’t guarantee this will be the same for your niches, but I have been very lucky.

Yeah I have heard of horror stories too from a couple of my buddies. They were banned because they went over the limit for clicking their ad sense. I’ll relay your suggestions to them, thanks!

Ditto. You just don’t put all of your eggs in one basket, specially if the basket is not big enough to protect them all. Well not unless it’s ok for you to lose a couple of these eggs. Same as with online “investments”, its always a smart move to diversify and not rely on one sole money maker.
