A guide to making money online without your own website

Making money online without a website is very possible, and can be very profitable also. It is often a problem for webmasters that they run out of unique content, or run low on ideas, or even lack the design skills and insight to run a profitable website, and this is where you come in to grab your share of the internet pie. This can also be taken as a guide for those web masters that are struggling for content also, or don’t have the knowledge to perform certain tasks.

Webmasters will offer good money for content writers, so if you have a knack for writing, or story telling chances are you can make some good money writing articles. Be careful with this line of work though, as quite often webmasters will outsource their work to 3rd world countries in an attempt to get cheaper content, don’t be lulled into competing for work when $3usd is offered for a 500 word article. Don’t under sell yourself; you have a talent that is worth more. To set yourself up in this industry, it is best to generate a portfolio of your work, make a collection of your writings and make it as diverse as possible so as to target a wider audience.

Forum posting is also in big demand, when a new forum starts the webmasters will often pay people to post on their forums to get unique content and inspire new users to join the community. This can add up to some very easy money, especially if you have a bit of writing talent and don’t suffer from writers block. The money will seem low, often around $0.10 – $0.20 USD per post, be an average post will be less than 100 words, and for an established typist it should take no longer than 2 minutes, so assuming you are paid $0.20 per post, and each post takes 2 minutes, that’s $1.00usd per 10 minutes, a total of $6.00 per hour just sitting at home and having fun. Not huge money, but very easy funds.

Graphic design can bring in the big bucks if one has some graphic skills. This line of work can be costly for the setup, the purchase of Adobe’s Photoshop can be expensive, and I wouldn’t recommend the purchase of it solely for freelance work. People pay for everything from a website’s header banner, to their forum signatures. The payment varies greatly depending on the person doing the buying and the level of detail in the work, but one can easily expect $30-$40 for a banner that may only take 10 minutes work. In this line of online work one must be cautious of being exploited as well, don’t undersell yourself.

Web programming can make a lot of money very quickly if you are experienced (or even an amateur) in dynamic web programming like PHP, ASP or javascript. I once took a job to move someone’s adsense ads to a new position, the work took me literally 2 minutes and he paid me $10USD, simply because he didn’t have the skill set to do it. Don’t be afraid to try this line of work, as it often builds up a good bit of experience for you as well, add it to your portfolio and use it as a reference for later work.
